On a hot day in Melbourne, Australia (the mercury had already reached the forecast maximum of 29 degrees celsius by the time KISS took to the stage in their full leather costumes), the AFL (Australian Football League) pulled out all the stops to bring the bombastic KISS show experience to the MCG stadium.
Outside the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, KISS' pre-match show was the biggest staging and production event in Australian sports history.
As often with this type of show, the performance was a spectacle that's divided the opinion of the country.
Here are some comments from viewers:
"Just about as good as it gets the Telstra pre-game entertainment" Channel 7's Hamish McLachlan said.
"A world-class act for the world's best game. That was something else. Hope you enjoyed that as much at home as the 100,000-odd here at the MCG did. The a massive thanks to Mushroom Events. I'm told that was the biggest staging and production for an Australian sporting event outside of the Olympics and Comm Games ever. Huge effort."
"It was unbelievable. What a thrill for all these KISS disciples"
wwos.nine.com: "Perfect choice': Kiss deliver on bold Meat Loaf promise with firey AFL grand final performance"
"Again the AFL prove they can't get the entertainment for the GF right. This feels like a tribute band"
"I'm sorry to those before. KISS has just demolished all recent Grand Final pre-game entertainment off the stage"
"The KISS opening was f**king ELITE!"
"I mean, great performance. But the fake crowd noise is off-putting. Clearly lip synced but probably safer than a mMeatloaf repeat"
"KISS is a pretty amazing group to get for the pregame, good job AFL"
